Avenue of Martyrs is a cemetary dedicated to those who have given their lives for Azerbaijan’s indepence. The headstones  on the right are for those who died when Soviet tanks came into the city and randomly shot citizens who were staging a peaceful demonstration. Known as Black Sunday 


The memorial is located on a hill overlooking the Caspian Sea
