Oct 6-7 Tashkent, Uzbekistan Photos

We return to Uzbekistan for 10 days - our first stop - Tashkent.  We had a long walk across the border

Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. We visited the Memorial of Courage, which shows the exact time and date when the city experienced a devastating earthquake in 1966 killing more than
 3,000 people

April 6, 1966 -  Tashkent is the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan as well as the most populated city in ex-Soviet Central Asia

Amir Timur Museum dedicated to the Mongol warlord, politician & reformer who was a patron of science, education, trade, culture & craft

Monument to Amir Timur (Tamerlane 1336-1405) first ruler of the Timurud Dynasty

Independence Square was known as Lenin Square until Uzbekistan declared independence in 1991 and the statue of Lenin was dismantled.  The area includes many government buildings, monuments, 
and parks frequented by locals.

Glory & Memory Alley which include "Memory Books" where the names of Uzbekistan people who died for their Motherland in WWII are written

Independence Square park network borders on the city river channel, Anchor where the banks stay green thru most of the year - a favorite place for locals.

 Next to our Ramada hotel was a banquet hall where we saw a wedding celebration

 And across the street was a park (Navroz Garden) with walkways, and an assortment of entertainment

 Of course, we took a ride on the ferris wheel
