Romania - Peles, Bran Castle, & Brasov - Sunday, 9/5/2021

Driving from Bucharest to Sinaia resort town in the Carpathian Mountains to see the Peles castle

Branko, our guide, and his vehicle in which we are traveling through the Balkans

Built between 1873 and 1883, the neo-Renaissance Peles Castle was a summer getaway for Romanian royals. With 170 lavishly decorated rooms, the castle was equipped with the most modern conveniences of the time—electricity, elevators, and central heating.

Bedroom suite built in the castle in 1905-1906 for Franz Josef, Emperor of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire invited by King Carol 1st to attend the Royal Jubilee in 1936 (up the steps is the bed)

A real tourist trap, but a beautiful view

Brasov, Romania - medieval town with lots of  squares - view from our room

Brasov was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 & then settled by the Saxons. Brasov sits at the intersection of trade routes that linked the Ottoman Empire & western Europe
