Lake Towada/Oirase Gorge, Aomori, Undersea Train from Aomori to Hakodate

Leaving Lake Towado

We took a nature walk along the creek along the floor of the beautiful Oirase Gorge

Cooked mackerel for lunch

Having fun at the Nebuta Matsuri Museum in Aomori

Nemuri Nagashu (Nebuta Festival) was seen nationally as a custom that was practiced to ward off the sleep demons - the enemies of farmwork - which were said to cause drowsiness during the busy farming season of summer.

Annual festival held in Aomori in August, contest held for best float, a parade, and fireworks finale. Every year about 20 large sized floats are made for the procession.

Remarkable work!

 2022 winning float

Unbelievable craftsmanship!

Presentation explaining the festival held in August with dancing and music including only a flute, cymbals  and a drum. Crowds of over 2 million people attend the festival.

Visiting the fish market in Aomori - octopus head and other parts

We took the bullet train from Aormori to Hakodate going thru the undersea tunnel.  We traveled across the Tsugaru Channel between the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu.  Maddy got the stamp from the station for a momento.
